Yerevan authorities on Monday announced a major project to modernize the city’s iconic Cascade.
Mayor Tigran Avinyan’s advisor Sona Tevanyan said at a City Hall meeting that the modernization project envisages over 20 billion drams investments. The project has been developed by French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. The design features the construction of the uncompleted upper part, the construction of a concert hall with a capacity of 1000 persons, a new contemporary arts museum, leisure and entertainment areas etc.
GTB Development has been selected through an open bidding.
Upon completion, all buildings and infrastructures will be handed over to the city as municipal property.
The investing company will be entitled to construct a multifunctional complex in the right side of Cascade, which will be harmonious with the landmark. The project’s estimated completion period is 5 years.
The stated goal of the project is to “construct the uncompleted part of the Cascade complex and ensure the cultural monument’s complete and finished design and its connection with the 50th Victory Anniversary monument.”
