LITTE ARMENIA—Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School held their 5th annual Hye Tahd Conference—One Cause. One World. One Human Race. Each year, at the Hye Tahd Conference, Pilibos Scholars participate in various workshops held by faculty, community members, and alumni. They discuss matters related to the Armenian Genocide as well as the importance, and future, of the Armenian cause and culture.

This year, the conference focused on genocides and crimes against humanity around the world, with the mission to educate our Scholars on how to stop genocide and fight for all human rights. We had the honor of having Mr. Raffi Hamparian, ANCA’s National Chairman, as our keynote speaker. He delivered a heartfelt message on the topic of genocide and encouraged our Scholars to take action, pursue the ultimate justice that is due to the Armenian race, stand firm against all genocides, and to become the authors of that righteousness.

Following Mr. Hamparian’s keynote speech, Pilibos High School Scholars, joined by Holy Martyrs Ferrahian High School Juniors, engaged in various workshops on the subject of genocide.

The sessions included:

1. Health and Human Rights: Nagorno Karabagh by Dr. Alina Dorian
2. The Unspoken Genocide of Southeast Asia by Oshin Baboomi
3. The Ten Stages of Genocide: How to Prevent Future Loss by Jonathan Chapman
4. Conversations on Genocide: The Lemkin Policy’s Stride for Prevention and Punishment by Raffi Hamparian
5. Human Rights: Law, Action, and Enforcement by Alice Kiureghian
6. Genocide Awareness: Ending Genocide through Education and Aid by Amy Cecil Friedman from the Jewish World Watch organization
7. Testimony: The Tool for Studying Comparative Genocide by Sedda Antekelian and Manuk Avedikyan from USC Shoah Foundation

The workshops provided insight into genocide as both an Armenian and global issue, which allowed students to explore the topic from a variety of angles, thus inspiring them to manifest change locally and globally. The conference concluded with a viewing of the Documentary, Architects of Denial—a first person account of the Armenian Genocide through the eyes of survivors.

The Pilibos Hye Tahd Conference allows our Scholars to meet, engage, and discuss important topics related to our history and culture as well as the current happenings around the world. Through such conversations, it is essential to foster leadership in Armenian youth and provide them with the tools and knowledge to stand in unison against injustice and dehumanization. As our fight for recognition continues, it is crucial to identify and acknowledge the continued sufferings of all nations, cultures, religions, and human beings alongside Armenians. One Cause. One World. One Human Race.
