Armenian language is in imminent danger of disappearing in America. At this point we must ask ourselves what can be done to prevent the disappearance of the language. Generation after generation, Armenian native speakers are fewer and fewer.

What is the reason that many Armenian parents prefer that their children attend American schools and kindergartens? The reasons might be of social nature. Parents want their children to fit in the American social life and speak English as a native language. Of course this has its good sides but what about the Armenian language? Our real native language?

Fortunately, there are many private schools which concentrate on teaching American Armenians their native language. There are private tutors who give lessons of Armenian language and literature. The point is that no matter how old your children are, it is never too soon or too late to take them to Armenian language classes so that they are able to speak their native language the best way possible.

Of course it is very important to speak Armenian at home so that your children grow up in Armenian surrounding and culture and the family is considered the key of the Armenian language survival.

Yet, taking private classes are always the best way of having your children speak literate Armenian. Don’t have any doubts- when they grow up, they will thank you.
