The importance of Armenian kindergartens in Armenian American life
Friday, June 28, 2019The Armenian language is in imminent danger of disappearing in America. At this point, we must ask ourselves what can be done to prevent the disappearance of the language.
What is the reason that many Armenian parents prefer that their children attend American schools and kindergartens? They think that languages are merely means of communication and it is possible to remain Armenian without speaking the language.
If every Armenian had the same opinion, Armenian schools and kindergartens in the U.S. would be empty by now and the language would only be spoken by the senior Armenians. Yet, they are still functioning and have many young Armenians who will in the future be able not only speak their native language but also read and write, which has become a rare thing among the younger generation.
There are in Glendale, Hollywood, Pasadena, etc. which means our children have the opportunity to speak their native language, to know their native history and literature. Let’s not take that right from them. They live in America; they will speak the language and know American history and literature naturally. But we must make an effort in helping our kids grow up being aware of their history and culture.
Taking your child to an Armenian kindergarten has a lot of benefits. The opportunity of raising your child in an Armenian surrounding, being confident that your child is in safe hands of Armenian kindergarten teachers who take good care of the babies and putting the Armenian base in your child since a very early age.
